The Benquerencia Training and Recreation Centre (CIR).

Large colonial style building created at the expense of the «Centro de Benquerencia Sociedad de Instrucción y Recreo», an institution created in 1906 in Havana, being the first educational society created by emigrants from the sea.

The school was built in 1906 and started to function in 1907, housing also the premises of the Agrarian Union of the parish.

The building, of eclectic style, consists of two floors and gives great prominence to the main façade highlighted by a great stairway. As a finishing ending, it incorporates some ball pinnacles and a decorative archivolt with a blind arch. On the main door there is a five-pointed star and a plaque with the following inscription: «CENTRO DE BENQUERENCIA INSTRUCCIÓN Y RECREO AÑO – 1906».*

*»BEQUERENCIA TRAINING AND RECREATION CENTRE YEAR – 1906″.

It is located in a closed enclosure. In 1907 the current dance floor and the music box were built. It is currently used as the Social and Cultural Centre of the San Pedro de Benquerencia Neighbours’ Association, after its restoration in the 90s thanks to the involvement of the local residents.

Get to know the permanent ethnographic exhibition «Benquerencia no Tempo» located on its ground floor.
