The Council of Barreiros is located on the coast of the province of Lugo, on the shores of the Cantabrian Sea, within the tourist geodestination known A Mariña Lucense.
Its geographical situation can be considered a natural privilege, as Barreiros is located between the sea, with very fine sandy areas that are 8 km long and next to the popular beach called As Catedrais. Also, the mountains which invite you to spend long holiday periods with many places to discover and varied experiences to live.
The municipal capital, San Cosme de Barreiros, is 90 km from the provincial capital, which is Lugo.
The main communication route is the A-8 Cantabrian highway, which runs along the coast of the Cantabrian Sea, starting in Bilbao (Basque Country) and finishing in Baamonde (province of Lugo) where it joins the A-6 (Madrid – A Coruña highway).

You can also use the N-634 national road which, parallel to the A-8 highway, joins San Sebastian (Basque Country) with Santiago de Compostela (capital of the Galician region), crossing theCouncil of Barreiros.
At the border with the Council of Foz, the N-634 connects with the N-642, towards Foz, Burela, San Cibrao, etc.; all of which are located on the coast of the Mariña Lucense.

Barreiros has different bus stops, facilitating connectivity with others towns and cities in Galicia. The company that provides this service is Arriva.
Likewise, from the Council of Ribadeo there are buses from company Alsa that allow connectivity with various cities in Spain, mainly on the Cantabrian coast.

Moreover, in summer, we have a circular and beach bus service that connects Barreiros with Foz and Ribadeo, with several stops in different beaches and in the urban centers.
The narrow-gauge railway (FEVE) runs along the Cantabrian Sea from Ferrol (Galicia) to Xixón (Asturias) and it offers great views of the entire coastline. It is a way of travelling in a comfortable way, focusing on oneself and the surrounding landscape.
In Barreiros, there are two stops: one in San Cosme and the other in Reinante.
