San Pedro de Benquerencia’s Church

Its construction dates back to the 16th century. On the main façade, crowned by a two-sided bell gable, it has a small niche with a stone image of San Pedro popular with a large key in his hand.

To appreciate its artistic uniqueness, it is necessary to access its interior and admire the Gothic ribbed vault of its stone cross richly decorated with paintings ofthe four Evangelists. Each one with their symbols: Juan and the eagle, Lucas and the bull, Mateo and the severed head in possible reference to his backlash and, finally, Marcos and the lion.

The pictorial technique shows that the artist lacked knowledge of perspective. It is thought that they could have been painted in the second half of the 18th century.

In the vault of the high altar there are angels, painted in the 19th century.

Finally, the main altarpiece in rococo style stands out with the figure of San Pedro in the centre.
