Julia’s house in San Miguel de Reinante

This is the most representative Indiano building in Barreiros. Villa Julia was built in 1926, taking inspiration from French eclecticism and, to a lesser extent, Art deco (Modern Style).

It is a residential prototype different from those prevailing in the surrounding area. French-inspired, its most striking element is the tower, a symbol of power. It is an architectural element whose purpose is to ennoble and monumentalise the Indiano house.

On the main façade, the portico stands out, on which there is a continuous balcony that becomes a rooftop terrace at loft floor.

On the side, there is a large bay window built in concrete and with geometric decoration, inspired by Art deco, combined with vegetal motifs.

As a curiosity, it is said that Mr Alfonso Renduélez and his wife Julia Rocha promoted the construction of this house from the Caribbean Island. On their returning to Barreiros the house was already finished to the displeasure of Mr Alfonso, since the final result was not to his liking. He ordered another house to be built, a project that he was finally unable to carry out.

This mansion is now called Villa María.
